Before running any type of utility on your QuickBooks® or QuickBooks Pro® data file we recommend copying and if at all possible backing up to newly formatted media.

Critical-Recovery's Administrative Password Recovery Utility is for QuickBooks® versions 2 through 2005.

Utility Summary
 

Critical-Recovery's Password Utility is designed to list all users and thier corresponding passwords within a QuickBooks Data file. The download is free and will reveal all but the Admin password. You can purchase an unlocking code which will work for 1 week ( 7 days ) that will then allow the display of the Admin password. User records are stored differently in version 12 (QB 2003) and later and cannot be displayed. For QB 2003 through 2005 the utility will only remove passwords.

This utility will not work for QB 2006 or later!

How the utility works
1. Once downloaded locate and double click on the "password utililty.exe" file.
 
2. Click file and then Open File, you should get a screen similar to that shown below
 
3. Navigate to your QuickBooks® data file, click on it and then click the Open button at the bottom right.
  Most QuickBooks® data files will be located in the default QuickBooks® installation directory of
C:\Program Files\Intuit\QuickBooks Pro\
4. You should then be presented with the screen below. Here you may enter in the unlocking Key Code
 
5. Clicking Cancel to this screen will result with all users and passwords displayed except for the Admin Password as
  show in the figure on the left. Entering in a valid key code and clicking OK will result with all users and passwords displayed including that of the Admin user as shown on the right. There is also the option at the bottom which will take you to our main Critical-Recovery webpage.
 
6. In QuickBooks® Version 2003 passwords cannot be revealed and will display the message below.
